Harper E Stewart – Biomechanist

Headshot of Harper Stewart in front of USC.

Welcome to my website, my name is Harper Stewart (she/her)

I am a biomechanist and creator of #biomechtalk!

#biomechtalk is a video series to introduce coaches, athletes, and students to principles in biomechanics that can help improve their performance in sports and in life! I also make videos about training as a track and field athlete and practical tools to help other students based on my experience in grad school. You can find my videos on YouTube, and Instagram, linked here!

About Me

USC Logo.

I am a PhD Candidate in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Southern California. I work in the Biomechanics Research Lab where I am advised by Dr. Jill McNitt-Gray.

My Research

My research to date has focused on detecting injury for endurance runners, providing feedback to Olympic and Paralympic Long and Triple Jumpers with USA Track and Field’s Sport Science Team, and developing an Integrated Biomechanics Informatics System (IBIS) to support the development of database infrastructure for large scale studies in biomechanics. To learn more about my research you can check out the publications tab to find my peer-reviewed papers, conference proceedings, and presentations.

My Interests

I love sports biomechanics and I am passionate about using science to help athletes improve their performance. I also care deeply about advancing women and other marginalized groups in STEM. I love to run and still race as a post-collegiate athlete.

Prior to USC

Bucknell University Logo.

I graduated from Bucknell University (‘ray) with a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering. I was a multi-event athlete (pentathlon and heptathlon) on Bucknell’s Track and Field Team for 4 years.

I am from Rochester, NY where I grew up playing many sports including track and field, soccer, cheerleading, and field hockey.
